This week while i was reading about Will and Stella’s crazy adventures, I read about their little pool party together. Stella explains how she wishes she could kiss Will and just be near him. It is a scar thought for Stella and Will that they literally cannot touch each other. The authors tone in this reading was excite, sadness, panic, and relief. The author shows all of these things by using words that either point directly to the tone or direct you to it. I would completely recommend this book to new readers because of all of the emotions it takes you through. This book is so good because the author really take her knowledge of pathos and tries to connect to the audience through their emotions.

This week while reading I started off with Stella in the doctors office. In the end of last weeks reading Stella got a nasty infection. Somehow this infection had gotten worse during the night and Stella had noticed when she woke up. Stella immediately called the nurse once she saw the oozing and gross things coming out of the infection. During these chapters the authors tone ranged from sad to disgusted. I was a lot more intrigued this week with the reading. The book really caught up with itself this week when it started to get as interesting as I anticipated. So far I would recommend this book to other readers because it just keeps getting more interesting.

For these series of blog posts will be reading ‘Five Feet Apart’ by Rachel Lippincott. My first week reading has been very interesting. The reason I chose to read this book was because I saw the movie and loved it and usually I always read the book about the movies I watch. So far I do still believe that the movie is better so far but I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. This week I started my book off with Stella’s chapter. Just in the first few lines Stella expresses how she would trace pictures of her sisters perfect lungs. Her sister and her were fairly close with each other because they would go on ‘adventures’ so Stella says. While writing this portion of the book the authors tone was sad or full of pitty because Stella was talking about a hard topic and not spending that much time with her sister anymore. The author shows that she is sad though her choice of diction and by explaining the back story.

My book review

My book is ‘The Help’ by Kathryn Stockett. In this novel the author uses her knowledge of 1960’s slang and cultures to create a statement about what the black community has been through. The women especially have been through a lot. This book is a series of events combined together to establish a more then touching story from multiple points of views from the black women working in as a multipurpose housemaid for white families. The husbands would usually be out working, but the wives would be at home bossing these poor black women around sometimes so inhumanely.

One key point was right at the start of the book when the first person telling their story is Aibileen, one of the strongest black women in the south at the time. This portion of the book is interesting because Aibileen tells us her story from before she was working for the women she is now. She also describes how it is to take care of so many sweet children with such evil parents. She says “I done raised 17 kids in my lifetime.”. This expresses that Aibileen has raised many kids and has lots of experience.  Aibileen also talks about how her life is at home compared to when shes at the white houses. When she tells us about this she gives us some descriptions of her neighborhood and it does not sound nice!

Next another key point in this novel is when Skeeter finds out her mother fired Constantine.. She exclaimed “…stunned that my mother could cast off someone who’d done her the biggest favor of her life…” showing how much anger she felt towards the situation. Which she had every right to be mad because that was a woman that was always there for her and who was like a second mother to her. Skeeter made it clear that she was angry, she did this by stomping and slamming her door.

Additionally a big part in the novel is when Aibileen decides she is going to ask Minnie to share her stories and opinions with Skeeter for her book. Although it ended up working out, Skeeter still was stunned about the fact that she was able to hear Minnie’s stories. Skeeter says “”Minny? You mean… Missus Walters’ old maid,” I say, feeling suddenly how incestuous this is turning.” explaining that this was getting bigger then she thought it would. This little thing turned into a big group that wanted to share their stories. This was such an important part in the book because this is when skeeter realized that this was all getting real really fast.

Finally the last key point im talking about is when Minny caught Miss Celia basically drinking so she did not get pregnant. Minny said “Oh, I know you ain’t sick. I seen you with them bottles upstairs. And you ain’t fooling me another second.”. She says this because it angers her how Miss Celia acts like she wants a baby then drinks bottles on a daily basis. This is a big problem because if Miss Celia’s husband were to find out he would leave her instantly in Minny’s eyes. Minny did not want this to happen so she confronted Miss Celia about it. Come to find out that she was drinking medicine in order to be able to get pregnant. Therefore Minny was completely wrong about the situation and she then apologized.

In the end these series of events in all made the book by coming together to form a story only a fool could take their eyes off of. Going from major event to major event really kept the book interesting and exciting to read. The author used multiple points of views to explain all of the pain and labor the white women put the black women through and have nothing but respect for that concept. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing about this book because I really loved it so much. This book positively influences the community by showing all black females that they do have a voice and they can use it when they want to. In regards to the big picture this falls in the lines of helping the community be better. It is showing to keep segregation illegal because it was a horrible lifestyle for the black community and completely unfair.  This was an amazing book and it was as good if not better than the movie and I would totally recommend it to my friends and family. In regard to the big picture this book is pretty important because it is explaining a time in U.S. history to be completely honest.

The Final Flare

Somehow each week I get more and more into reading about the psychological and physical beating’s of all of the poor women in my book. These women really go through it, when I tell you they can never catch a break they really can’t. For this week I am 100% excited to tell you all about the astonishing events that went down in the reading. Skeeter really has her work cut out for her this week.

This week I read a few chapters going on about the book writing and everything that you heard about last week. But this week Skeeter calls Missus Elaine Stein to see when he is going to be able to submit her manuscript to her. Not only that but Skeeters mother is awfully sick and is having an in home doctor come to check on her because she is too weak to leave. Both of these events are greatly affecting Skeeter and everything she is about to do in these next couple of weeks.

Starting with the call the Missus Elaine Stein, Skeeter is trying to submit the manuscript of the book to her in order to get it published. This event made me feel excited in a way because Skeeter was about to get her book published. She was not doing it for herself she was doing it for the good of the black women around her. The thing that went well was the writing of the book because all of the cooperation she received from the women participating. Not only that but this also went well because Skeeter was determined to help these poor women the entire time. All in all nothing about her writing this book went bad really. The black women were all safe and sound in the end and so was Skeeter. I responded to this positively by smiling while I read that skeeter was going to get the book published. I would change how the white families treat the black women because its inhumane and completely wrong. This matters because the black women did not deserve and still do not deserve to get treated like they are not even people.

Next I would like to address Skeeters mom being sick. Not just any kind of sick either, shes so sick and brittle that she has an in home doctor that comes to see her. This event made me feel sad because Skeeters mother may have not been the best mom but that was her mom and she is slowly dying. Nothing about this situation has gone well except the last burst of fight her mom got by not throwing up that green bile for a week. The thing that was the hardest was that the mother was dying this was the hardest thing because there was hardly a chance at saving her. I responded to this negatively because it was a sad time and it would affect many in the community. I would change the doctors motivation to save Skeeters mom because he kinda just has no hope when she doesn’t throw up for a week. This matters because Skeeters mom played a big role in many peoples lives and this would stun multiple.

In conclusion, this week my reading still stuck to the thematic statement of no matter how much you do for a person and how good you are to them cannot force them to be good to you and do nice things back. Even though I did not use examples of much altruism, it should be known that there were many altruistic actions during these chapters. In the end I would rate this book a 10/10 and I would read it again myself!

Blog post 3:some real stuff

I have met some petty bad drug addicts and alcoholics in my life. Yet I have never experienced what one of the characters in my book experienced this week. This week I read about how the new woman Minny was working for was drinking enough to poison 2 maybe 3 people. And Minny gave her old boss a pie made of Minny’s poop. The whole thing was crazy starting with a vast amount of important events from Minny’s life.

Minny giving Mrs. Hilly a poop pie was kind of fair in my eyes. While reading this experience made me feel disgusted just because I couldn’t even imagine but she kinda deserved it to be honest. The things that went well was Minny getting her little revenge for how she got treated for so long. Some things that went bad was Mrs. Hilly got angry and called all the other white women to make sure Minny didn’t get a good job. But fortunately Minny did find a good new job and she liked it kind of. Her new boss Mrs. Celia was a kind women. This matters because Minny needed some job to support her 5 kids.

Mrs. Celia was drinking a lot, or so Minny thought. Minny did not have the courage to confront Mrs. Celia because of how kind Mrs. Celia was to her. This experience made me feel sad because at first I did not know why Celia was trying to drink her baby to death. Some things that went good were the simple facts of it was tonic that Celia was drinking to try not to have miscarrages and she’s not an alcoholic after all! However the bad part was Minny really thought she was an alcoholic. This was hard because Minny felt bad for accusing her of something so harsh afterwards. This matters because Mrs. Celia really does want to have a baby with Johnny.

In conclusion, again this week my book still related to the thematic statement of no matter how much you do for a person and how good you are to them cannot force them to be good to you and do nice things back. I love how the author is integrating more point of view’s into the book. I am extremely happy with the way this book continues to astound me.

Blog Post 2: The best time reading!

Diving into crazy events was not the first thing i thought was going to happen this week while i was reading. Was I wrong? Yes comletely because my reading this week started off going from problem to problem. This week I read about Skeeter and how she got accepted to answer the Miss Myrna and also her idea to start this new book. This book would eventually help all of the black women in the area and inspire them to take some risks just as everyone who participated in the writing of the book did. I also got to read about how it was when Aibileens best friend Minny got involved. Oh boy, wasn’t that a part to read haha!

The first event i want to address is the Miss Myrna columns. This experience made me feel content because this is a step towards skeeters dream job of being a writer. Several things went well during this time in the book because Skeeter got the job for starters! Another thing that went well was her responses because Aibileen helped her respond to the people. Something that was hard for Skeeter was the responses she had to make to the people for the Miss Myrna letters. Skeeter ended up having to ask Aibileen for help, because she was stuck and got them all answered so it worked itself out. I responded to this positively because this s a good event in the book. I learned that even if you have to start small you should because that’s when good outcomes come your way. The reason why this is so important is because it shows us that skeeter really wants to be a writer and that leads her to write this book.

The next event id like to bring up is the decision and process of writing this book. Skeeter decides to write this amazing book consisting a mix of stories from most of the black women in the community around her. This event made me feel a bit uneasy at first because everyone involved could get in big trouble for participating. Again luck was on their side when I say a lot of things went well. Skeeter,Aibileen, and Minny got most of the black women in their community to come share their stories. Nothing really went bad during this situation which was an upraising in itself. I am happy it all worked out in the end it was really touching. This matters because Skeeter was hoping this book would give black women a sense of urgency to stand up for themselves and what they know is right.

In conclusion, my book so far has been completely amazing and I love reading it. The author is using great transitions throughout the book and its really just a 10/10! This book is all about being altruistic throughout every page in some way and that is what i love most about it. This also is still in the lines of no matter how much you do for a person and how good you are to them cannot force them to be good to you and do nice things back. This whole book shows this by all of the black women getting basically stepped on and they still are some of the sweetest people out there.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
